Watch the strange penalties referee Kwofie awarded Heart of Lions to escape relegation

Referee Joseph Kwofie awarded two shocking penalties to Kpando Heart of Lions, enabling them to draw 2-2 with Berekum Chelsea and avoid relegation on the final day of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.

The match, which took place at Golden City Park, began with Chelsea taking a commanding lead thanks to two goals from the league’s top scorer, Stephen Amankona.

Amankona’s double in the first half brought his season total to 19 goals.

Facing the threat of relegation with just 43 points, Heart of Lions was in a precarious position.

Nonetheless, Heart of Lions managed to change their fortunes within 45 minutes and stave off relegation.

Referee Kwofie first awarded a penalty to the Kpando-based club in the 55th minute, which Ebenezer Abban converted, breathing new life into the team.

Then, in stoppage time, Referee Kwofie granted Heart of Lions another penalty under dubious circumstances, as there appeared to be no contact on the player.

Abban took the penalty once more and successfully scored, securing the draw and his team’s place in the league.

The video of the penalty has caused a stir among football fans on social media.
