WATCH: Miss UG Winner Raises Concerns Over Mismanagement Under Pageant Administrators

Jazmine Saaka, the newly crowned Miss University of Ghana (Miss UG), has sparked major conversation on campus after alleging that the organizers of the pageant—particularly the leadership commonly referred to as “Guru’s administration”—mismanaged resources meant for the event and its related projects.
According to Jazmine, several key responsibilities that the organizers were expected to fulfil were either poorly handled or left completely unaddressed. She claims that funds allocated to support contestants, facilitate charity activities, and sustain pageant operations were not properly accounted for. These concerns, she noted, became more visible after the competition ended, as she tried to access support for her planned projects as Miss UG.
Jazmine explained that despite repeated attempts to engage the team in charge, she received little clarity regarding how the pageant’s budget was used. This, she believes, indicates broader administrative shortcomings that future contestants could suffer from if not addressed. Her decision to speak publicly, she says, came from a desire to protect the integrity of the pageant and ensure fairness for those who may compete in years to come.
Her allegations have triggered strong reactions among students and observers. Many students expressed disappointment, pointing out that such issues weaken trust in campus institutions that are meant to empower young women. Some have also called for a transparent review of how funds were managed during this year’s pageant.
Others believe Jazmine’s boldness in speaking out represents an important step toward accountability, arguing that student-led initiatives should uphold the highest standards of transparency. A number of concerned individuals have even called for an independent audit or for the University of Ghana’s management to intervene to ensure stricter oversight going forward.
Despite the controversy, Jazmine says she remains committed to using her platform to make a positive impact on campus and beyond. She emphasized that her goal is not to tarnish the pageant but to help strengthen it, so future titleholders can benefit from a more organized and transparent system.
Her remarks have reignited long-standing conversations about how student pageants are run, how finances are handled, and the need for better administrative structures within such competitions.
