WATCH: Javits Frimpong’s classmates protest bullying and gun violence following his fatal shooting in Bronx

Classmates of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong have taken to the streets of the Bronx in New York to protest bullying and gun violence following his tragic death in a shooting incident.

The students, from DreamYard Preparatory School, staged a walkout and demonstration on November 2, 2026, to honour their late schoolmate and demand justice for his killing.

The protest came days after Javits was shot while walking to school on the morning of October 29, 2026, near East 171st Street and Crotona Place in the Bronx.

According to reports, the teenager was attacked and shot under circumstances that remain under investigation. After sustaining gunshot wounds, he reportedly managed to run for approximately a block before collapsing.

He was subsequently rushed to St Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His death has sparked grief among students, teachers, family members and members of the Ghanaian community in New York, with his classmates using the demonstration to draw attention to the dangers of bullying and gun violence affecting young people.

During the protest, students carried placards bearing messages such as “Justice for Javits”, “Forever 15” and “Protect Kids, Not Guns”. They called for justice for their deceased colleague and demanded greater efforts to protect students from violence both inside and outside school environments.

Some of the demonstrators described Javits as a cheerful teenager who enjoyed interacting with his classmates and making people laugh. They also rejected suggestions that he was isolated or had no friends at school, insisting that he was loved and appreciated by those who knew him.

The demonstration also brought renewed attention to concerns about bullying, following claims made by Javits’ father, Thomas Frimpong, regarding his son’s experiences at school before his death.

Thomas reportedly disclosed that his son had experienced bullying and that the school’s principal had informed him that two students were suspended following an altercation involving the teenager.

The father’s account has added another dimension to the growing public discussion surrounding the circumstances that may have preceded the fatal shooting.

However, investigators have not established a connection between the reported school dispute and the killing.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) is investigating the incident and searching for three teenage suspects who were reportedly dressed in dark clothing and wearing blue surgical masks.

Authorities are yet to establish the motive for the shooting. Investigators are reportedly examining several possibilities, including whether the incident was connected to a previous dispute, a robbery attempt or mistaken identity.

As of the latest reports, no arrests had been announced in connection with the killing.

The incident has also attracted attention from Ghanaian authorities, who have expressed concern over the death and indicated their willingness to support the bereaved family.

For Javits’ classmates, however, the protest was more than an expression of grief. It was also an appeal for safer streets, stronger protection for children and an end to the violence that continues to claim young lives.

The students hope their demonstration will help keep attention on the circumstances surrounding their schoolmate’s death while encouraging authorities and the wider community to take bullying and gun violence more seriously.

As investigations continue, Javits’ family and classmates are left mourning the loss of a teenager whose life was cut short at just 15 years old.
