Wee smokers allegedly cause fire outbreak in Obuasi

Wednesday dawn fire outbreak at the Obuasi Horsy Park Market has destroyed six shops, stalls and goods worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

The fire which is said to have started around 3:00 am was still raging as of midday same day.

According to an eyewitness, the area that had been burnt by the fire is a known marijuana smokers base. It is alleged that they are the cause of the fire.

A combined team of fire personnel and allied security agencies had to battle with the fires for several minutes.

Fire personnel on the ground describe the incident as one of the biggest disasters to have hit the market in recent years.

Traders mainly women, whose trading capital fizzled out in the smoke are still grieving.

Meanwhile, the entire area sealed off from the public while investigation continues.
