A group of officers of the Ghana Immigration Service allegedly subjected Ghanaian, Michael Cham, whom they thought was an ‘alien’ because his skin colour was white, to severe beatings in Mim, a community in the Ahafo Region.

According to a report by Kofi TV, the immigration officers, who seemed to have been monitoring the man, accosted him while he was shopping at a mall.

The officers asked Michael Cham whether he was a Ghanaian and he said yes and showed them his Ghana Card as evidence.

But they tried to arrest him, insisting that he was a foreigner who had illegally acquired the Ghana Card, Ghana’s National Identification Card.

Cham resisted the arrest, insisting that he was a Ghanaian, which led to an altercation in the shopping mall.

CCTV footage of the incident shows the man fighting with the officers. One of the officers could be seen landing a heavy blow on his face.

The officers managed to drag Cham out of the mall and he could be seen with blood oozing all over his face.

According to Kofi TV’s Kofi Adoma Nwanwani, their checks indicated that Michael Cham is a Ghanaian with a Ghanaian mother and an expatriate father.

He is a member of a famous family in Mim which owns the Desmond Saw Mill.
