Addressing her grievances in a video posted on TikTok, the market woman angrily called out the chiefs for their deceitful and greedy behavior, which has contributed to the recent disrespect directed at the Asantehene and the Ashanti Kingdom.
According to her, the chiefs promised to construct a new market in Kumasi to accommodate them. This led them to take out bank loans to help develop the new location they were relocated to, only for the chiefs to demolish the project and hand it over to other individuals.
“All the chiefs who sat down to discuss and handle the Afia Pokua issue should listen, you are the cause of the attacks directed at the Asantehene and his throne. We are all living here in the Ashanti Region with you and never wronged you. You came to inform us that you want to construct a new market in Kumasi so we should relocate to the Race Course. As women as we are, we went to take loans from the banks to develop the place, only for you to end up demolishing the place and handing it over to other people.
“People are wailing and crying over their loss, yet you haven’t taken any action to address the situation, choosing instead to focus on the Afia Pokuaa issue. We reported our current situation to you, and you even received payment from us to report it to Otumfuo but you didn’t. You are the reason why people can easily attack Otumfuo nowadays,” she angrily said.
She added that many of the affected market women are grieving over their loss and are burdened with debts but are afraid to speak up about the matter.
“What wrong did we do to deserve this kind of treatment from you [chiefs]? Our money and the struggles we encountered just to develop Race Course for us to sell our stuffs, only for you to give the place out leaving us in serious debts. Why will you do this,” she asked amidst tears and curses.
She has appealed to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to address her concerns and deliver justice on the matter.
