Pilots, they say, have one of the best but most daunting jobs in the world. From being poised in critical situations to effectively communicating and navigating an aircraft from takeoff to safe landing, it is simply no small feat.
To land a plane, it takes several critical steps to ensure a safe touchdown. According to research, it takes about seven steps before a pilot can safely land an aircraft.
First, they must establish communication with Air Traffic Control (ATC) for guidance and updates on weather conditions and runway availability.
Then, they navigate by following the flight path and altitude as instructed by ATC. Next, they begin descent according to ATC instructions by reducing speed and configuring the aircraft for landing.
They will then align the aircraft with the runway using visual or instrument landing systems (ILS), reduce the descent rate gradually as the aircraft approaches the runway threshold, maintain directional control using rudder pedals and aerodynamic controls while on the ground, and finally take taxiway instructions from ATC to reach the terminal or parking area.
These major steps have been demonstrated by a female pilot who is said to have landed a plane in Accra.
According to a video shared on X, the female pilot is captured in a poised manner as she goes through the various critical steps and motions to land the aircraft on the runway.
Throughout this process, she remained determined to deliver the best safe landing.
