Watch as Asanteman queen mothers display cooking skills and showcase traditional dishes in style

Over twenty (20) queen mothers of the Asanteman Kingdom were spotted cooking and exhibiting their special cuisines in honour of their vast cultural heritage.

The event, which took place at the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on April 22, 2024, featured an array of Ashanti traditional dishes from all the paramountcies.

Prior to the exhibition, the queen mothers were seen in their various factions, busily cooking and setting the tables up for the exhibition amidst cheers from the crowd.

Aside from the cooked dishes, they also displayed some fresh local produce and educated patrons on its journey from farm to table, providing attendees with comprehensive information on food culture.

Afterwards, the queen mothers adorned themselves in colourful costumes and stood by their various tables to welcome the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who went around checking out their presentation.

The queen mothers made dishes ranging from ampesi, etor, fufuo, ebubu bunu, mportor mportor, and many more interesting indigenous traditional foods.

The Otumfuo, who was impressed by the work done, applauded them while being properly educated on some of the dishes.

Some of queen mothers who participated in the event were the Mampong hemaa, Adansi hemaa, Ejisu hemaa, Yamfo hemaa, Agona hemaa, Ahafo Kenyasi hemaa, Tepa hemaa, Agogo hemaa, Tafo hemaa and several others.

Also, Ghanaian musician Lousika, who was crowned queen mother of Manso Nkwanta in the Ashanti Region sometime in 2023, participated in the event.

The programme, dubbed ‘Feast Ghana in Asanteman,’ aligned with the 25th Anniversary celebration of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, emphasizing Asanteman’s cultural importance and gastronomic heritage.
