Walewale MP slams insufficient funding for GIADEC and GIISDEC, describes Ghc44 M as insufficient

He argued that the GHC 28 million and GHC 16 million budget allocations fall short of the capital injection needed in the sector.

Dr Mahama, however, expressed support for the proposed budget approval of GH₵1,817,449,639.00 for the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources for the year ending 31st December 2025.

He highlighted that the committee’s report includes provisions for the payment of outstanding wages to the country’s youth who have rendered services under the Youth in Afforestation Programme.

While commending the minister for allocating GH₵28 million and GH₵16 million to GIADEC and GIISDEC, respectively, he maintained that these amounts remain inadequate for the required capital investment in the sector.

These corporations were established by the NPP government to help the country benefit from its mineral deposits.

However, the Walewale MP reiterated that the allocated funds were insufficient for the necessary capital injection. He emphasized the importance of enhancing development in the Eastern Corridor, a concern he noted was also shared by former President Akufo-Addo.
