Wakawaka Assemblyman Cries Out, Seeks Help as Rainstorm Destroys the Only School Block

The Assemblyman for the Wakawaka Electoral Area in the Bole Municipality of the Savannah Region, Emmanuel Wadekuu Esq., has made an emotional appeal for urgent assistance after a heavy rainstorm collapsed the community’s only primary school building.

Speaking to Adom News, Mr. Wadekuu described the situation as “helpless,” explaining that the three-classroom block, which served pupils from Class 1 to 6, was built in 2014 but began developing cracks within a year before its complete destruction by the recent storm.

He called on government agencies, NGOs, and stakeholders to come to their aid, stressing that schools are set to reopen next week and pupils now have no place to study.

Zakaria Amadu Kawute, chairman of the student management committee in Wakawaka, also blamed the collapse on poor construction work.

He appealed for government support, noting that important school documents were destroyed, with a few salvaged items now stored in a teacher’s room.

The rainstorm also left devastating effects on residents. Over 50 people have reportedly been rendered homeless, losing property, foodstuffs, and shelter.

A 90-year-old widow, Hawa Abudu, recounted her terrifying experience, saying she was rescued by young men after the storm ripped off her roof.

However, due to a lack of accommodation, she had to return to her damaged home the next day. Hawa, who depends on her only child—now widowed after losing her husband in an accident—tearfully appealed for help to re-roof her home.
