W/R: 15 people were killed in road accidents in Jan. – Police
15 people have died while over one hundred people sustained injuries in road accidents in the Western Region in the month of January 2020.
The Western Regional Commander for Motor, Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service Chief Superintendent, Richard Appiah, told Empire FM’s Emmanuel Ohene Gyan out of the 15 fatal accidents recorded in January, eight (8) of them involved motorbikes
He observed that most of the motor riders do not adhere to safety precautions on the road.
“We appeal to those who ride motorbikes to adhere to motto traffic regulations. They should wear their helmet. We will be out there and we will go after those who flout the regulations.
In the Central region, 35 passengers died at Dompoase near Komenda on January 14.
The heart-wrenching accident which happened at Dompoase near Komenda in the Central Regio involved two buses, one from Takoradi to Accra and the other from Accra heading towards Takoradi.
An eye witness recounted that the Takoradi bound bus tried overtaking another vehicle and in an attempt by the opposite bus to swerve, resulted in the accident.
All the two drivers were reported to have died instantly with one of them having his head completely chopped off with the rest of his body trapped in the mangled vehicle.
ASP Gyamfi, the Central Regional MTTD Commander told Empire FM’s Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan that the bodies have been deposited at the Cape Coast hospital morgue for identification, preservation and autopsy.
