Vinicius, Mbappé, and two other Real Madrid stars face UEFA bans for conduct in Atletico clash

Four Real Madrid players could potentially be banned from featuring in their Champions League quarter-final clash against Arsenal on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Junior, Antonio Rüdiger, and midfielder Dani Ceballos are all facing an official UEFA probe for their actions against Atletico Madrid in the last-16 round.

The four players have reportedly been accused of taunting some Atletico Madrid fans, with Rüdiger allegedly making a throat-cutting gesture toward Atleti supporters, while Ceballos is said to have “cut his sleeves” as an act of provocation. Mbappé is also alleged to have made an inappropriate gesture, similar to one that led to Diego Simeone’s ban during a Champions League match against Juventus.

As a result, UEFA has assigned an Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector to investigate claims of “indecent conduct” involving all four Real Madrid players.

The alleged incidents occurred during Real Madrid’s last-16 second-leg victory over Atletico Madrid on March 12, 2025. While the potential consequences remain unclear, reports suggest that suspensions are possible.

If suspensions are issued, all four players would miss the game against Arsenal, a significant boost for the Gunners, who are already dealing with multiple injury setbacks.
