VIDEO+PHOTOS: How Takoradi baby thief was arrested
Details have emerged about how the one-year-old baby who was allegedly stolen at Takoradi in the Western Region was rescued by a SWAT team of the Ghana Police Service.
The boy, Francis Mawusi Ahiabenu, was found in the house of the alleged baby thief at bout1:00 am Tuesday morning at Afia Nkwanta, a suburb of Takoradi.
Mother of the baby, Nana Akosua, has told Multimedia Journalist, Ina-Thalia Quansah that the suspect’s arrest was based on a tip-off by a good samaritan who pleaded anonymity.
“Someone approached us and told us that he knows where our child was being kept. He also told us that those keeping the child were Anlos [Ewes] based at Afia Nkwanta [in Takoradi]. He told us he could not go there with us but showed us the place where my son was being kept,” the baby’s mother narrated.
She said they conveyed the message to the police who subsequently strategised to arrest the suspect together with an accomplice.
Ina-Thalia has said the suspect had shaved the hair of the young boy to make it difficult for identification but that could not prevent the suspect’s arrest.
The suspect was arrested together with a man suspected to be her husband.
