The National Communication Officer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Sammy Gyamfi, was asked to leave the studios of Accra-based Peace FM on Friday, 12 April 2019 when he turned up to join a discussion on the station’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’.
The host of the show, Kwame Sefa Kayi (Chairman General) asked his producers to drive Mr Gyamfi out for having described him (Sefa Kayi) as a hypocrite a few weeks ago for playing a leaked tape purported to contain the voice of the party’s National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo inciting violence against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and the Chairman of the National Peace Council.
Mr Gyamfi had said at the time that Mr Sefa Kayi never played leaked tapes of officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) but always aired those involving NDC officials.
“These bunch of hypocrite journalists will never play leaked tapes on their shows so far as they have negative repercussions on the NPP. However, they are quick to play leaked tapes that involve the NDC, like we are seeing today,” Mr Gyamfi said at the time.
When Mr Gyamfi entered the studios of Peace FM on Friday, Mr Sefa Kayi expressed his utmost reservations about Mr Gyamfi’s comment and demanded an apology.
Mr Gyamfi expressed remorse but said the matter was a dead issue, a situation that forced Mr Sefa Kayi to ask his producers to walk him out of the studio, even though that never happened.
The other panel members on the show, former NPP Bantama Constituency MP, Henry Kwabena Kokofu and Tarkwa Nsuaem NPP MP, George Mireku Duker intervened before Mr Gyamfi offered an apology.
