Ali Bongo suffered stroke in late 2018
Gabonese President Ali Bongo is in Brussels, the Belgian capital, for the African Union – European Union summit.
He join dozens of African leaders who arrived at the seat of the European Union for talks between the two continental bloc.
But a video of Bongo has become a major talking point in some parts of social media as he is captured with his walking stick struggling to take his steps after descending from his car.
He is carefully guarded by two aides as he supports himself with the aid of a walking stick before making his way into the hall where deliberations took place on Thursday, February 17, 2022.
One of the earliest videos shared by the LSI Africa media outlet has generated condemnation from tweeps who are calling his insistence to stay in power despite his frailty as a shame.
Bongo suffered a stroke inn late 2018 while on official duties in Saudi Arabia. He had treatment in the UK and recuperation sessions in Morocco.
It is widely speculated that Bongo will be contesting when next polls are held in the Central African country.
