A short video of a nursery school teacher severely beating her student that was recorded a year ago has resurfaced and landed the teacher into big trouble with the law.
Leaked on Twitter, the video immediately went viral and caught the attention of many South Africans and social media savvy people before making the rounds on several media houses.
The video shows the seemingly upset teacher spanking the girl under 5 years old and making her clean her table while simultaneously hitting her several times on the head and asking why she is vomiting.
According to the BBC, the video which was recorded in Johannesburg also caught the attention of the local child protection service which has led to the arrest and dismissal of the teacher while authorities are questioning the person who recorded the video for not intervening.
Sowetan Live reports that Carletonville police spokesperson Warrant Officer Peter Masooa said the woman appeared in court on March 28 after a fellow teacher opened a case of assault on the minor against her and has been kept in police custody while investigations continue.
More videos of the teacher have since been released on Twitter causing an uproar.
Ninnie’s Neurons Nursery School where the incident occurred has since the release of the viral video seen several parents storm into the school in rage to withdraw their children.
The viral video gained several reactions from people on social media who expressed their displeasure in seeing the teacher treat the young children in such a manner.
While several are happy about the development of the case, they eagerly await the final decision of the court and hope justice prevails to serve as a warning to several adults who care for young children.
