[VIDEO]: DKM customers clash with Minister over payment

The customers of DKM Financial Services are accusing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his ministers of not honouring the promise of retrieving their monies for them as promised.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Friday, spokesperson for the aggrieved customers, James Baffoe Sarpong blamed the deputy Defence Minister, Dereck Oduro, of stalling the payment.

He accused Mr Oduro of buying one of the embattled companies instead of seeing to the payment of the monies as promised during the 2016 presidential campaign.

But in a response, Mr Dereck Oduro who is also the Member of Parliament for Nkoronza North says the government has not relented in its effort of getting the customers their monies, adding that they have so paid about 90% of customers.

He denied claims that he has bought Jester Motors as purported by the customers.

Background

Thousands of customers of DKM Microfinance Company lost their investments, running into millions of cedis after the central bank in 2015 suspended the operations of DKM for violating the Banking Act.

Though the central bank subsequently lifted the ban on the company’s operations, DKM was unable to pay its customers their locked up cash.

The Bank of Ghana subsequently confiscated the assets of the company and appointed the Registrar General’s Department to commence a liquidation process to refund customers of the company.
