Vice President Bawumia calls for inclusive democracy

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says even though democracy is key in national development, it can be entrenched when the people are included in the decision making process.

It is for this reason that African countries and the world at large need to share ideas on how to improve the lives of the people through democratic values and free market trade.

Vice President Bawumia made this remark when a delegation from the International Democratic Union called on him at the Jubilee House as part of a three-day working meeting in Ghana.

Founded in 1983, the International Democrat Union (IDU) is an alliance of centre-right to right wing political parties with its Headquarters in Munich, Germany. The Union is made up of about 80 full and associate members from 63 countries.

The IDU provides a forum in which political parties holding similar beliefs can come together and exchange views on matters of policy and organisational interest. From this, they establish contacts, and present a unified voice towards the promotion of Centre-Right policies around the globe.

The visit by some members of the Union of which the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a member is to attend the executive working meeting and the Dual Conference to fashion out policies for the formation of the Democratic Union of Africa and scale up it membership from 5 to cover all African countries.

The delegation came from 14 African countries such as South Africa, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Namibia, Malawi and others from European countries.

The Chairman of the NPP Freddie Blay, said the ideals of the International Democratic Union is what can create equal prosperity for its citizens.
