Veteran journalist Shaka Ssali is dead

Details surrounding his death remain unclear, as no official cause has been disclosed.

His passing has left many shocked, with tributes continuing to pour in from across the continent.

For more than two decades, Ssali was a familiar and respected voice in African journalism, known for his fearless approach to reporting and insightful analysis of pressing issues.

As the host of Straight Talk Africa, he engaged audiences on topics ranging from governance and corruption to social justice and human rights.

Born in Uganda, Ssali began his journalism career in the 1970s, working with various newspapers before joining VOA in 1994. In 2000, he became the inaugural host of Straight Talk Africa, a role he held until his retirement in 2023.
