Olympic Games pages release ‘black only’ highlights after being called out as racists by social media users

The official social media pages of the Olympic Games were forced to publish another video following massive backlash after the official highlight reel of the Paris 2024 Games featured no black or African athletes.

Allegations and criticism of racism were immediately levelled against the organizers as people wondered why some prominent black athletes were conspicuously missing from the highlights despite their incredible achievements at the Games.

The video reel titled ‘Merci’ captured some noteworthy achievements at the games, but conspicuously missing were Letsile Tebogo’s outstanding achievements in the men’s 200m events.

The absence of Tebogo and other black athletes led to a barrage of attacks on the page, with some people believing that it was deliberate and a manifestation of the organizers’ racist tendencies.

Following the backlash, the pages have published a new video which is dominated by record-breakers and gold winners with incredible stories at the event.

The 2024 Olympic Games, which started on Friday, July 26, 2024, ended on Sunday, August 11, 2024, with the United States of America winning the most medals.

Ghana, who had nine athletes at the Games, came home without a medal.
