Rev Prof. Afful-Broni, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba has found himself in fresh trouble as pressure has begun to mount on the University Council to remove him.

This because the Member of Parliament for the Effutu constituency in the Central Region, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has written to the Governing Council of the UEW to demand immediate action on an Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) report, which indicts Prof. Afful-Broni.

A letter by the MP dated October 24, 2019, and addressed to the Chairman of the Council has it that an investigation conducted by the EOCO has indicted the VC.

The same report has also exonerated the former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mawutor Avoke and his Finance officer, Dr Theophilus Ackorlie Senyo of any wrongdoings.

As a result, Mr Afenyo-Markin who was the petitioner in the case that was sent to the EOCO through the Minister of Education, as asking for the implementation of the report’s finding and recommendations.

In other words, the MP is asking for an immediate reinstatement of Professor Avoke and other officials who were made to step aside in the wake of the investigations as he also calls for the removal of Rev Prof Afful-Broni.

Readers will recall that in the wake of the management crises that hit the UEW, Prof Avoke and some other officials were accused of the destruction of documents that could be relevant to the investigation hence the decision to make them step aside.

However, with the EOCO report clearing them of any wrongdoing, Hon. Afenyo-Markin has called on the Council to act according to the EOCO report to ensure that justice is effected on behalf of the parties and allow peace and tranquillity to prevail in the University.
