Bimbilla faction rejects Akufo-Addo mediation move

Family of Naa Dassana Andani, the late overlord of Bimbilla, say they will not be part of the Togbe Sri mediation process.

They claim the appointment of a mediator by government on the chieftaincy issues in Bimbilla is an attempt to cover up on the murder of the late chief.

At a press conference in Bimbilla, Spokesperson for the Dasana Family Osman Kika said the chieftaincy issues surrounding the Bimbilla skin have been determined by the Supreme Court.

There, he said, there is no need for any mediator.

He also said: “There can never be any meaningful mediation in Bimbilla if the murderers and their masterminds still walk freely in Bimbilla.”

The Dasana family also accused the Northern Region Minister, Salifu Saeed, of contributing to the insecurity in Bimbilla.

“The regional minister and Vo-Naa Abarika Attah masterminded the killing of our late chief and because of that he can’t visit the Dasana palace.”

The family also accused government of trying to do the bidding of the regional minister by failing to enforce the verdict of the Supreme Court and cautioned it will be dangerous for the security of Bimbilla.

“We need not remind the president that he swore an oath to uphold and defend the laws of Ghana of which Bimbilla is no exception.”

“The appointment of Togbe Sri amounts to an attempt to use the sole mediator to review the judgement of the Supreme Court; and with all due respect, this is a disrespect of the Supreme Court in favour of individual interest.”

The late Bimbilla Naa Andani Dasana Abdulai was murdered on June 19, 2014 by some unknown assailants.

The government then placed a GH¢10,000 bounty on the head of Tolin Naa Braimah Damba, who was the prime suspect.

On August 16, 2019, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as part of his two-day tour of the Northern Region hinted his government will bring an end to the over-a-decade chieftaincy dispute in Bimbilla.

This was preceded by a formal appointment of Togbe Sri as the sole mediator through the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, the National Security Minister and the Volta Region Minister.
