The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested two foreign nationals in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Touré.
The suspects have been identified as 32-year-old Salifu Walid, a Nigerien national, and 24-year-old Aziz Wadrago Mane, a Burkinabe national.
Police reportedly arrested the two men on September 20, 2026, at a hideout in Banpanase, near Mamponteng, in the Ashanti Region.
Their arrests form part of investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of Touré, whose case has raised concerns about the activities of individuals allegedly operating under the guise of football scouts.
According to police investigations, the two suspects were allegedly members of a four-person group linked to the kidnapping and subsequent murder of the Senegalese goalkeeper.
Investigators believe the group may have used football scouting as a means of gaining access to aspiring players.
The suspects allegedly used online platforms and other networking channels to present themselves as football agents or scouts and make promises of football opportunities to young players seeking to develop their careers.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances under which Touré was allegedly lured to Ghana and what happened after his arrival.
The investigation has also focused on the circumstances surrounding the discovery and transportation of his body.
Police records indicate that Touré’s body was brought to the Manhyia District Government Hospital on October 16, 2025, by three unidentified men believed to be foreign nationals.
The circumstances surrounding the arrival of the body at the hospital subsequently became part of the investigation into the goalkeeper’s death.
The arrest of Walid and Mane is expected to assist investigators in piecing together the events leading to Touré’s death and identifying other individuals who may have been involved.
The police have indicated that investigations are still ongoing, with efforts being made to establish the full network allegedly connected to the case.
Authorities are also expected to determine whether other individuals were involved in the alleged recruitment process and whether other aspiring footballers may have been targeted using similar promises.
The case has highlighted concerns about the need for young footballers to exercise caution when dealing with individuals who claim to be football scouts or agents, particularly when recruitment is conducted through online platforms.
