Two dead, dozens injured after passenger bus collides with ‘container’

Two persons are reported dead after a passenger bus travelling from Takoradi to Accra collided with a MAN Diesel container truck at Cape Coast. The fatal accident occurred at dawn on Wednesday, September 12 near the Ameen Sangari Factory after the University of Cape Coast east gate on the main highway.

The driver of the passenger bus, a Hyundai maxi bus with 33 passengers on board allegedly overtook a leading vehicle just after a curve and in the process collided head-on with an oncoming MAN Diesel Container truck which was loaded with frozen fish from Tema.

The driver of the truck along with two other occupants as well as the driver of the passenger bus and his passengers sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Hospital and the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Two passengers on the passenger bus died as a result. They include a male adult on the bus who died on the spot and a female adult who also died shortly on arrival at the teaching hospital. Their bodies have been deposited at the teaching hospital morgue for identification and autopsy.

A total of 32 injured persons on the bus are receiving treatment at the hospital.

Meanwhile, four of the casualties are in critical condition.
