Tsito SECTECH headmaster, staff interdicted over Free SHS tomato diversion

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted Rev. Joy Kafui Akpebu, the headmaster of Tsito Secondary Technical School in the Volta Region, along with two other staff members.

According to a statement by GES, their interdiction follows allegations of diverting over 100 cartons of tinned tomatoes meant for preparing meals for students of the school.

“Rev. Joy Kafui Akpebu, Headmaster of Tsito Senior High Technical School, Sylvanus Awunyo, Storekeeper, and Samuel Kwame Ampeh, Driver, have been interdicted pending an investigation into the alleged diversion of 100 cartons of tinned tomatoes intended for student meals in the Volta Region. This decision is in accordance with Section 8, Clauses (i-v) of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Code of Conduct, which authorizes the interdiction of staff who may interfere with an ongoing investigation,” GES posted on its Facebook page on Saturday, January 18, 2025.

The decision by GES comes after a citizen vigilante, Apostle Frank Gogo Ekatso, effected a citizen’s arrest of a taxi driver and reported his suspicious activity to the police in Ho.

Apostle Ekatso, in a viral video, was seen confronting the driver of an Opel Astra taxi with registration number GR 5051 U while the driver was in the process of attempting to load several cartons of tinned tomatoes into his car boot at a hideout on the Sokode-Akrofu road in the Ho Municipality.

In his commentary in the viral video, Apostle Ekatso explained that he had seen items being transferred from a bus belonging to Tsito Secondary Technical School earlier.

The tinned tomatoes were said to have been part of food supplies collected from the Mawuli Senior High School food supply center, which serves several schools in the municipality.

Meanwhile, according to reports, the taxi driver, who has since been handed over to the police, is still in custody and assisting with the police investigation into the matter.
