This is because, some of the trainees rely on the allowances to pay their examination fees and three weeks to the examination, the allowances have not been released.
President of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana , Jonathan Dzunu, who revealed this to 3FM’s Sunrise on Tuesday called for urgent release of the allowances.
The government recently released over GHS67 million to Public Colleges of Education across the country to cater to the feeding of trainees.
This comes after the Principals of the various Colleges of Education announced that students would be fed twice instead of the three square meals a day due to the delay in the payment of six-month feeding arrears by the government.
The Principals had also indicated that the trainees were going to start feeding themselves from May 8, 2022, if the government did not release funds for feeding.
The government through the Finance Ministry acted swiftly by releasing GHC67,942,662 to principals of the various Public Colleges of Education to salvage the situation.
But five days after the release, portions meant for the trainees have still not hit their accounts but that of the Principals of the various Colleges of Education have been given.
Mr. Dzunu told Sunrise host, Alfred Ocansey that “the GHS200 which is meant for the trainees has not been given”.
“Some of us depend on this to pay our examination fees and some of the level 300 are writing the exams in the next three weeks. Currently, we are writing our mid-semester exams and we need to pay our examination fees”.
