Trader jailed for causing harm and damage

A trader who hit the head of a seamstress with a stick for dating her husband has been sentenced to a month imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.

Salomey Dekpeh was found guilty on the charge of causing harm and causing unlawful damage at the end of the trial in a court presided over by Mrs Rita Abrokwah Doko.

Salomey is to serve a month’s imprisonment on the charge of causing harm, while on the charge of causing damage she is to pay a fine of GH 720 cedis in default serve another month in jail.

It further directed the convict to pay compensation of 1,000 cedis to the complainant, Victoria Dosu.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Agnes Boafo said the complainant resides at Town Council Line in Accra.

DSP Boafo said Salomey reside at Amasaman and that the complainant has a boyfriend known as Jerry Amponsah whom she has dated for the past two years. Prosecution said Salomey confronted the complainant accusing her that she has been going out with her husband and warned her to stay away from him. She said during the month of February 2018, Salomey took the complainant’s saucepans and plastic bowls from the boyfriend’s room and went to the complainant’s fixed place of abode and destroyed same in her presence.

The Prosecution said on April 16, last year, at about 1900 hours, the complainant was ambushed by Salomey while she was on her way to a friend’s house in an attempt to attack her.

Prosecution said some people, who witnessed the incident separated them and both went their separate ways.

She said later Salomey went to the complainant’s friend’s house and hit her on the forehead with a stick and bolted.

She said a report was made to the Police and a medical report form was issued to the complainant to seek medical attention.

The Prosecution said Salomey was later arrested by the Police and during investigations, she admitted the offence.
