Thomas Partey

Thomas Partey stole all the headlines this weekend but how did other Ghanaian players in Europe fare? Joy Sports kept tabs on them and highlights the top five performers.

A performance that attracted plaudits from all over the world. Thomas Partey was arguably the best outfield player in the Madrid derby. He barely put a foot wrong, displaying a range of passing that was not always reciprocated by those around him.

For a moment, it felt as if the former Almeria midfielder could bend space and time. He was the metronome in attack and the barricade in defence.

The 26-year-old was inch-perfect against Real Madrid with a 90% pass accuracy. He constantly broke the opposition’s midfield lines by providing 49 forward passes whilst also completing four take-ons. Partey reinstated his defensive competence by making nine ball recoveries and completing three tackles.

A Madrid derby to forget, but certainly, the midfield performance of Partey, is one to remember for years.

Kwadwo Asamoah – Italy

Kwadwo Asamoah – on his return to the line-up, produced an excellent performance to help Inter Milan secure their sixth straight win in the Serie A on Saturday.

Asamoah, who is Antonio Conte’s established left wing-back, had yet another fantastic outing, making 40 passes – the third-highest of Inter players to feature on the pitch, with an accuracy of 82.5%, also making three clearances and three interceptions.

Inter remain top of the standings with a maximum of 18 points, scoring 13

goals and conceding only twice.

Andre Ayew – England

The Black Stars captain started the game against Reading on a decent note after providing a perfect cross for Baston Borja to head Swansea into the lead in the third minute.

Although Ayew is yet to open his Championship goal account, the contribution was his third assist in six league outings this season.

Ayew has made eight appearances in all competitions for the Welsh-based club so far this season.

Andy Yiadom – England

He is the reason Andre Ayew’s Swansea City aren’t on top of the English Championship.

Yiadom denied Steve Cooper’s men their sixth league win of the season as he drove his effort past goalkeeper Frederick Woodward in the 90th minute for Reading.

The effort was the 27-year-old’s first goal for Reading since September 2018, which ended his 12-month goal drought in the Championship.

Majeed Ashimeru

The Red Bull Salzburg midfielder continued his fine start to the season as he scored the equaliser against Austria Vienna. His goal opened the floodgates as Salzburg won 4-1 on Saturday.

Despite joining the Austrian champions in 2017, Ashimeru has never had to be a regular in the first team after being sent on three different loan spells. However, the 21-year-old has seized the moment and plays like a new signing.

So far, he has featured in seven matches for Salzburg, scoring two goals and assisting one.
