The lives of pupils and teachers of Tokoroano St Francis Basic School in the Krachi East District, a farming community in the Oti Region, are under serious threat as academic work is conducted in an old dilapidated building with visible cracks and no roof.
One of the teachers Keneath Bronya who spoke to MyNewsGh.com said the students had been studying in the dilapidated structure, but the situation had worsened as a result of rainstorms that hit the area and were totally ripped off the roof of the kindergarten block.
“I was a student here, we were studying in this life-threatening building and now I have completed college and back here as a teacher and now the situation here has even worsened, now it is a life-threatening building.”
“I have a kid here too…from KG to JHS they have nowhere to study as it is dangerous and life-threatening to stay in the building,” he added.
Speaking to some of the students they told MyNewsGh.com that “This is where we learn amidst rain or shine. So we are using this opportunity to tell everyone who is capable to come and help us.”
“We are going on vacation, we want a much better school building when we return to be able to have a sound mind to learn,” another student said.
The nearly collapsed building has been marked as a death threat by the pupil and teachers of the school.
