WATCH: CAN rejects Tinubu-Shettima ticket

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has rejected the All Progressives Congress’s decision to run a Muslim Muslim ticket for the 2023 election.

On Sunday, July 10, the Presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu announced Kashim Shettima as his running mate, a move that does not seat well with many Nigerians.

The association is however asking Tinubu to respect diversity for unity and seek other candidates aside from a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Citing an example with the Muslim-Muslim ticket in Kaduna CAN note that it has been a failure as kidnapping, banditry, and killing among others have become more rampant as compared to previous administrations.

CAN question the competence tag used by Tinubu saying it is an excuse on the side of the APC. Adding that there must be justice in the selection of candidates.

“Give that respect, respect the diversity for unity. We are not asking you to come and pick the worst of us, nor are we asking you to pick the weakest of us, no, we are asking you to come and choose the best of us and we can give you those best. …I was contacted a while ago on that day when they gave a lame excuse that there was no capable among the Christians, what nonsense, how can you say there is no one capable among the Christians, that is the biggest slap but I’m waiting to see what the Christians in that political party would say if they really know what they are doing.”
