Three Bundesliga stars ready to switch international allegiance from Germany to Nigeria – Report

It’s becoming increasingly common in football to witness players choosing to represent their ancestral homeland rather than their country of birth.

In recent years, numerous players have taken this route, a trend that is gaining traction across the African continent.

Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles, has notably profited from this trend, with several players opting to switch allegiance and proudly don the green and white jersey.

However, it appears this trajectory is showing no signs of slowing down, as a recent report stating three German players are considering switching allegiance to play for Nigeria has emerged.

German players to play for Nigeria?

According to a report from the media outlet, OwnGoalNigeria, three Nigerian-eligible players currently playing in the German Bundesliga are contemplating a switch in their international allegiance.

The report highlights that Werder Bremen wing-back, Felix Agu, Augsburg centre-back, Felix Udoukhai, and former Borussia Dortmund attacker, Justin Njinmah, are all eager to play for the Super Eagles.

Agu had been scouted previously to represent Nigeria during Gernot Rohr’s tenure as coach, but the versatile defender chose not to play for the Super Eagles at that time.

Njinmah, as reported by All Nigeria Soccer, seems likely to represent Nigeria, especially since he does not seem to fit into the plans of the current Germany coach, Julian Nagelsmann.

Udoukhai, having progressed through the youth ranks of the German national team, is also keen on switching allegiance, as he has yet to receive a call-up to the senior national team.

If the trio completes their switch in international allegiance, they will join a long list of Nigerian-eligible Germans, including Leon Balogun, Kevin Akpogunma, and Maduka Okoye, who have opted to represent the Super Eagles over Germany.
