Thomas Partey pledges to play any position to help Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has expressed willingness to play any position to help the team, prioritising Arsenal’s needs over personal preferences.

The versatile player, who has often been deployed in various roles, returned to right-back in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Brighton on Saturday, January 4, 2025, in the Premier League.

Despite his adaptability, Thomas Partey’s performance in the unfamiliar role was not enough to spark a turnaround, and Arsenal were held to a draw, further damaging their hopes of securing the Premier League title this season.

Partey had impressed in midfield during the Gunners’ 3-1 victory over Brentford, leading fans to expect him to retain his role in the center of the pitch.

However, manager Mikel Arteta opted to push him to right-back, with Jorginho and Merino starting in midfield.

The tactical change raised eyebrows, and the fans’ frustration grew as Arsenal dropped points on the night.

Despite the result, Thomas Partey remained focused on the team’s success rather than his personal position.

Speaking after the game, the Ghanaian international emphasised his commitment to the team and his readiness to play wherever needed.

“I’m a professional, and I’ll play anywhere to help the team. I’m available to play in any position; I’ll do my best and give my best all the time. If I can do better and improve, I’ll be happy. There are moments when the team needs me, and I have to be there, and I’m always happy to help the team,” he said.

Although disappointed by the result, Partey remained positive and urged his teammates to focus on the next game.

“We are sad and frustrated; everybody is down, but that’s part of football. We wanted to win, to keep the momentum going, but at the end of the day, we didn’t get it. We need to forget about today and keep working hard to win the next game,” he added.

Arsenal’s draw leaves them with 40 points from 20 games, five points behind leaders Liverpool, who have two games in hand.

The Gunners will need favourable results elsewhere if they are to have any chance of winning the 2024/2025 Premier League title.
