The inside story of how Ernest Nuamah cried and absconded during botched transfer to Fulham

Leading French news outlet L’Equipe has given an interesting background story to the botched transfer of Ghanaian winger, Ernest Nuamah, from French club Olympique Lyon to English club Fulham.

The report indicates that Ernest Nuamah was being forced to move to England by Lyon and showed his opposition to the move by tearing up during the medicals.

Ernest Nuamah, as per the report, cried during the medical exams as he was being coerced into making a move against his personal and career wishes.

On transfer deadline day, Ernest Nuamah was the subject of a tussle between English clubs Fulham and Everton.

While Nuamah reportedly reached an agreement with Everton and was ready to move, Lyon preferred a move to Fulham as they had agreed to a deal in principle for the talented Ghanaian forward.

As per the reports by L’Equipe, Nuamah was unwilling to move to Fulham as he loved the environment in Lyon and deemed Fulham a step down in his career.

Nuamah is reported to have even absconded at some point in the transfer process, which compelled the two clubs to pull the plug on the deal.

It is reported that Lyon owner John Textor recognized the ill-treatment of Nuamah and subsequently sent him a message to apologize for attempting to force him out.

At the national team level, Ernest Nuamah was left out of Ghana’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
