The glitz, glamour and pride of Asanteman: See visuals from Asantehene’s mega silver jubilee thanksgiving celebration

The celebration to mark the silver jubilee of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as the king of the Ashanti Kingdom, Asantehene, continues.

On Friday, April 26, 2024, exactly 25 years of his installation as Asantehene, a non-denominational thanksgiving service was held to mark Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s distinguished leadership on the Golden Stool, at the Dwabrem grounds at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

After the mega thanksgiving service was a dinner, where funds were raised in support of the Otumfuo Foundation.

The two events, which saw a rich display of Akan culture and tradition, were graced by the Asantehene himself, his paramount chiefs, queen mothers, and other subchiefs as well as scores of prominent Ghanaians from every part of the country.

As usual, the Ashanti King, who was the centre of attraction, showed his class and majesty.

At the thanksgiving service, the Asantehene was draped in a white Kente cloth with beautiful silver pieces of jewellery on his neck and hand.

His wife, Otumfuo-Yere Julia Osei Tutu, widely called Lady Julia, was ‘glued’ to her husband in a beautiful Kaba and Slit made from Kente cloth.

The service witnessed performances from Diana Hamilton, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, and the Pro Vice Chancellor of the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), Ing Prof Abena Agyeiwaa Obiri-Yeboah.

According to manhyiapalace.org, the clergymen who participated were Most Rev Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana; Most Rev Peter Kwesi Sarpong, Catholic Archbishop Emeritus; Most Rev Gabriel Justice Anokye, Catholic Archbishop of Kumasi; and Most Rev Cyril Kobina Ben-Smith, Anglican Bishop of Asante Mampong and Archbishop of Ghana and the Church of the Province of West Africa.
