NDC needs a leader who can ‘use his brains’ – Yaw Boateng Gyan

Yaw Boateng Gyan

Former National Organizer of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan, has debunked a publication in the Daily Post that he is leading a campaign for the former Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffuor to take up the Flagbearer position of the party in the 2024 general elections.

He explained that even though he has not had any discussion with the former Finance Minister regarding the Presidential slot which is vacant in the NDC, he sees nothing wrong if Dr Duffuor is going to contest for that position in the party.

“If it is true, what is wrong with it? If it is true that Dr Duffuor is going to contest for Presidential Candidate and I am following him, what is wrong about that?”, he asked.

Speaking on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ Morning Show, Yaw Boateng Gyan indicated that former President John Dramani Mahama has not openly declared his intention to contest the presidential slot again in the party.

He added that it is a bad precedent for some people in the NDC to deliberately frustrate other potential candidates from showing interest in the presidential race, asserting that the stance of those people in the party is devaluing the flagbearer position.

John Dramani Mahama himself, has he openly or publicly declared his intention to contest the presidential slot again? If he has not said it openly, why are some people in the party [NDC] rejecting other potential ones? Why are they making it look like they don’t want any other person to contest the presidential race in the party?”, he wondered.

He indicated that Dr Kwabena Duffuor has been his bosom friend from his days as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana to the time he became the Finance Minister and they are still friends; thus, he will not turn his back on him if he shows interest to contest the presidential race.

“I have seen posters of Dr Kwabena Duffuor on social media, but I have not discussed anything with him regarding the Presidential contest,” he posited.

“ . . if he shows interest and says that he will contest the seat in the party, I will clap and celebrate it because when it comes to supporting the party financially at the grassroots, Dr Duffuor has done a lot for the party and H.E John Dramani Mahama can attest to this,” he added.

He stressed that, “at this point in NDC, we need a leader who can sit down and think of good governance and proper politics. Governance is not about running a race and playing football, but it is about someone who can sit down and be able to use his brain and use the youngsters around him to run an errand for him. They should stop playing the age card in politics because it will not help us. If Dr Duffuor opens his mouth to say he will contest, I will be the first person to support him.”
