Telcos Pledge $150 Million Investment to Boost Quality of Service in Ghana

Ghana’s telecommunications landscape is set for a significant upgrade, with major mobile network operators (MNOs) – MTN, Telecel, and AT – committing to a collective investment of $150 million to drastically improve the quality of service and expand infrastructure nationwide. This crucial announcement was made by the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, at a press conference held today in Accra.

Minister George revealed that this substantial investment is slated to be rolled out between now and the end of 2025. The funds will be strategically channeled into several critical areas, including the acquisition of additional spectrum and the deployment of new transmitters and equipment. These measures are specifically designed to enhance network capacity, improve coverage, and ultimately deliver a superior service experience for subscribers across Ghana.

“I would also at this point commend the CEOs of the three telcos for their commitments to collectively invest approximately $150 million in their networks between now and the end of the year to enhance quality of service either by acquisition of spectrum or introduction or acquisition of new transmitters and equipment,” Minister George stated. He applauded the proactive stance taken by the industry leaders in addressing the growing demands for robust and reliable connectivity.

This significant pledge is a direct outcome of recent intensive engagements between the Minister and the various CEOs of the three major telecommunication networks. These discussions have culminated in a series of agreed-upon measures set to benefit Ghanaian consumers.

“At this juncture, I am pleased to announce that my engagement with the CEOs have resulted in the following specific measures which are to take effect from Tuesday, 1st of July 2025,” the Minister affirmed. This imminent implementation date signals a swift response to ongoing calls for better network performance and improved digital services.

In addition to the infrastructure investment, Minister George further announced that starting Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the various mobile network operators will also begin to increase their data bundle offerings. This means consumers can expect to receive more data for their money, a move that complements the infrastructure upgrades by ensuring that enhanced network quality is matched with more accessible and valuable data plans.

This two-pronged approach – significant capital investment in infrastructure and increased data bundle values – aims to create a more resilient and efficient digital ecosystem in Ghana. It reflects a concerted effort by both the government and the private sector to foster digital inclusion and support the nation’s broader digitalization agenda.
