Taxi driver stabbed to death as he attempted to rescue assault victim

A 31-year-old taxi driver was tragically killed while attempting to prevent a group of people from assaulting another individual.

The taxi driver has been identified as Afrifa Foster.

The unfortunate incident occurred at Akom, a suburb in the Afigya Kwabre North District of the Ashanti Region.

Afrifa Foster was allegedly stabbed in the neck by the unknown gang men at about 3:30 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024.

Narrating the incident on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Agya Oteng said the driver had returned to the area to pick up some passengers he had dropped off.

The said passengers hired him to drop them off at the F2 Hotel and Restaurant, where there was an ongoing event.

Per the agreement he had with them, he mentioned picking them back up after the event.

Foster returned to the hotel to pick them up, but while waiting for his passengers, he spotted another friend, a ‘pragya’ rider, and engaged him in a conversation.

As they were having the conversation, Foster saw a group of eight men assaulting another individual.

He confronted them and asked why eight of them were assaulting the victim.

“Infuriated by the question, one of them asked him if he wanted to know why they were assaulting the victim. In a twinkle of an eye, the group of eight men pounced on Foster and allegedly hit him with chains and sticks. Later, one of them stabbed him in the neck. They took to their heels and left him at the scene,” Agya Oteng added.

He said some people around rushed Foster to St. Paul’s Hospital, where he died.

It was also revealed that the victim of the incident, in which Foster intervened, was accused of pursuing one of the perpetrators’ fiancées.

However, he informed them that the girl in question was his cousin and he could not have dated her.

However, the attackers did not believe him and proceeded to assault him.

The police have now apprehended one suspect in connection with the event, and he is currently assisting them in their investigation.
