Tarkwa MCE tours communities, assures inhabitants of more support

Hon Gilbert Ken Asmah, Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality has embarked on a 3-day intensive community visitation geared at educating the populace on government’s policy interventions and programmes.

He said programmes and interventions like the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCo), Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD), Planting For Food and Jobs, One District One Factory amongst others were initiated by Nana Akufo-Addo led government to benefit the ordinary people and urged the public to take advantage of them to improve upon their living conditions.

The crusade dubbed “Community watch” was also to brief the inhabitants in the community about some government initiatives like the Cocoa Rehabilitation, Cocoa Pollination, Afforestation, Free Senior High School, Youth in Agriculture among others.

In separate meetings with chiefs and people at Essamang Kakraba, Boobobo, New Atuabo, Adiewoso, Tetrem, Kyekyewere and Nkwanta, Hon Asmah hinted that his outfit was working tirelessly to better their lives and every necessary step in that regard was far advanced.

He said besides initiating new projects, he and his team were also continuing with the ongoing and abandoned projects started by his predecessor, key among them is the TNMA administration at Ahwetieso which was virtually abandoned at 50% stage but has been completed under his leadership together with the hardworking Assembly staff, he observed.

Hon Asmah has so far visited 30 communities upon the assumption of office and hoping to tour the rest of the communities before the close of 2019 with the Municipal Engineers, Assembly members and Unit Committee members respectively.

According to the Tarkwa-Nsuaem MCE it was fascinating to engage with residents in the Municipality periodically to know their concerns and provide better clarity and solutions to the issues confronting them.

He said the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and residents of the communities visited so far were highly joyful and grateful about the central government and the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly’s (TNMA’s) policies, especially the assembly’s move to decongest the Central Business District (CBD) and the clamp down on illegal mining which was a threat to the natural vegetation and water bodies.

Hon Asmah revealed that Tarkwa was the second fastest growing city in Western South Region with an annual growth rate of 2.9 percent and the influx of people from adjoining regions neighbouring countries, he said.

He further revealed that one of the topmost priorities of TNMA was waste management for which the Assembly required the support of all residents in dealing with the issue, adding that “a cleaner Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality would be a healthier one that will encourage investors into the Municipality.”

He said though, there were a number of interventions to discourage the practices and persistent attitude of the people on indiscriminate disposal of waste despite the provision of Refuse collection bays by his administration, TNMA would not relent on its efforts to put an end to the practice.

“TNMA would review its by-laws to help check irresponsible waste disposal in the Municipality,” the Tarkwa-Nsuaem MCE assured.
