Six suspected armed robbers have been apprehended by the Mpohor District Police after they robbed some scrap dealers on Saturday, January 8, 2022.
The scrap dealers Haruna Dayan and Abdul Rauf who are from Kansaworodo a suburb in Takoradi on Saturday, January 8, were going about in search of scraps to buy at Mpohor Town in the Western Region when they were attacked by eight men armed with locally made pistols and cutlasses who were aboard an Opel Taxi Cab with registration number WR 3186-14.
In the process of the robbery, one of the robbers cut the pockets of their victims and made away with 1,200 cedis. The victim scrap dealers proceeded to the Mpohor Police station to report the incident resulting in a team of Police patrolling the town in search of the suspects.
Meanwhile, the youth of Ayiem a town in the Mpohor District also volunteered to patrol alongside the Police and at 2:30 pm thereabouts alerted the Police that they had apprehended four of the suspects except for one Philemon Essien, 33 years, who was armed with a locally manufactured pistol.
When Police, however, arrived at a scene around River Butre in the course of their patrol, the said Philemon Essien who was hiding there upon sensing danger opened and exchanged fire with the Police where he sustained gunshot wounds in his left hand.
The suspects who have so far been arrested by the Police and assisting in investigations include Philemon Essien 33 years, Emmanuel Yalley 25 years, Muhammed Sumaila 29 years, Evans Armarh 25 years, Patrick Aboah 25 years and Augustine Nana Abaka 27 years.
Meanwhile suspect Philemon Essien who sustained gunshot wounds on his left hand and suspect Emmanuel Yalley who was severely beaten by the Ayiem Youth were rushed to Effiankwanta Regional Hospital where they are receiving treatment under police guard.
Efforts are also being made to arrest two other suspects who are on the run.
The five suspects are expected to be arraigned before the District Magistrate Court on Monday 10th January 2022 on a holding charge of robbery to be remanded for further investigations.
