Takoradi: Mother Who Burnt Son’s Genitals Jailed 6yrs

A Takoradi Circuit Court “A” has sentenced Madam Yaa, the 36-year-old mother, who poured hot water on her son at Funko in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region to six years jail term.

Madam Yaa had the genitals of her 11-year-old son burnt with hot water after accusing him of taking her GH¢1 to buy food.

Briefing Empire News’ Emmanuel Ohene Gyan, on the incident then, the Kwesimintsim District Police Commander, Supt. Peter Lennox Aidoo said the Victim, Emmanuel Affenyi,  a class two pupil of the Funko Catholic Primary on the said day, returned from School very hungry and took the GH1¢ note in his mother’s room to buy food.

When he was questioned by his Mother, she boiled hot water and poured it on his groin leading to severe burn after confessing.

The mother was arrested after a complaint was lodged by one Robert Bonney, a physician assistant at Kwesimintsim hospital after the scarred boy was brought to the facility Sunday for treatment.

The court was presided over by her honour Rita Doku said she wished her sentence will serve as a deterrent to parents who maltreat their wards.

The court also place the child into the care of his biological father despite disclosure by the Executive Director of Hurds Foundation Eva Ankrah who hired a lawyer for Madam Yaa that the  social welfare department will like to take up keep of the 11-year-old boy.
