A Takoradi Circuit Court presided over by Justice Aboagye Tandoh has sentenced two persons who attacked a taxi driver and snatched his car from him to a total of 24 years imprisonment, Thursday, May 30, 2019.

The two – Ernest Asamoah, 20 and Bright Essilfie, 21 – are to serve 12 years each in hard labour.

They pleaded guilty to all the two counts of conspiracy to rob and robbery, and the court sentenced them based on their own plea.

Prosecuting, Inspector Divine Aveti told the court the two stopped the victim Gideon Oppong Fosu at Inchaban around 7pm on Monday, May 27 and asked him to take them to Grabodo, a suburb of Shama. On their way going, they requested the driver to pick two other friends, a lady and a man which he complied because he did not suspect any foul play.

Inspector Aveti said when they got to an outskirt of Grabodo, the four culprits attacked the driver, pushed him out of the car and sped off with it.

The victim quickly rang to inform the youth of the town who together with him mobilised themselves in about three vehicles and pursued the suspects.

The front tyre of the taxi got burst at Asemasa near Assorko Essaman when they were running away with it. In the process of fixing it, they became alarmed, abandoned the car and tried escaping.

But one of the suspects was arrested at Essaman, about five minutes drive from Shama Junction around 12 midnight as he was standing by the roadside looking for vehicle to board.

The second suspect was arrested at the police barrier at Assorko when he went there to ask the police where he could get vehicle to Assin Fosu.

The two other accomplices, a lady and a man, all in their twenties are still at large.
