Our excavators are burnt but I support fight against illegal mining on river bodies – Miners

The management of Nyame Aseda Mining, a small-scale mining company, has offered its strong support to the government’s Operation Halt taskforce, expressing their readiness to help rid the water bodies of illegal miners.

Two representatives believed to be from Nyame Aseda Mining stated in a video that their mining excavators have been affected and burned; however, this will not deter them from supporting the government’s efforts.

“We have become victims of the government’s joint operations between the military and the small-scale miners as our excavators have been burnt.

“The burning of our equipment will, however, not prevent us from lending our support to the government’s efforts to rid the country of galamsey. We are ready to join the fight against galamsey,” he said.

The speaker, however, called on members of the Small-Scale Mining Association to exercise patience and rally their support behind the government’s efforts for the greater good.

“We appeal and urge all members of the Small-Scale Miners Association to exercise patience and rally support behind the government. The government’s fight to eradicate galamsey will help protect the Small-Scale Miners Association.

“We will have peace to perform our mining jobs if they succeed in getting rid of galamsey in the country. Let us come together to join hands and collaborate with them,” he appealed.

His comments come after an outburst of a miner allegedly involved in illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, threatening to lead his community in voting massively against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7, 2024 general elections.

In the video shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, the illegal miner expressed his frustration with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s decision to crack down on illegal mining, vowing that the NPP would face consequences at the polls for their actions.

“The fools among the leaders are too many now. We will stop campaigning for the party. They will do the campaigning themselves with their children. Whether they like it or not, we will vote against them during the general elections. We will not allow them to campaign in this area. Look at what they’ve done to this excavator. Why should they burn it?” he angrily remarked.
