Government renews curfew on Alavanyo and Nkonya townships

The Minister of the Interior has on the advice of the Volta Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument renewed the curfew hours imposed on Alavanyo and Nkonya townships from 1800 hours to 0600 hours effective Sunday, June 17.

A statement signed by Mr Ambrose Dery, sector Minister, and copied to the Ghana News Agency said government continued to urge the chiefs, opinion leaders, youth and the people of the area to continue to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.

“Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the two towns and their surrounding areas from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon,” it said.

“Any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” it added.
