I prioritize TGMAs like the Americans prioritize BET – Stonebwoy

Dancehall musician, Stonebwoy, has expressed his deep reverence for the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, emphasizing its significance in recognizing the hard work of Ghanaian musicians.

While he aspires to expand his global presence, Stonebwoy emphasized the importance of honoring local accolades such as the Ghana Music Awards.

In a conversation with TV3, Stonebwoy revealed that despite feeling under the weather on the night of the event, he prioritized attending the awards ceremony due to his immense respect for it.

“I am truly grateful. Despite not feeling my best that night, I made sure to attend the event. The Ghana Music Awards holds a special place in my heart because it acknowledges the dedication and efforts of Ghanaian musicians,” he stated.

Stonebwoy underscored the importance of nurturing local awards like the Ghana Music Awards, even as artistes aspire to international recognition.

He highlighted that while aiming for prestigious international awards like the Grammys or BET awards is commendable, recognizing and celebrating local achievements is equally essential.

“In as much as we want to grow out of our country in terms of height and enter into the GRAMMYS or the Latin Awards or the BETs, we have to understand that those awards are local awards to the Americans so it is really important to harness ours because without Ghana Music Awards then what? I wouldn’t want to be at home if I had to be there. On days that I was not performing like last year, I attended and I presented an award. I cherish it, to be honest,” he said.

Reflecting on his past involvement with the Ghana Music Awards, Stonebwoy expressed his dedication by attending even when not performing, showcasing his genuine appreciation for the event.

“I cherish every moment associated with the Ghana Music Awards. It’s a platform that celebrates our music industry and fosters its growth,” he concluded.
