Eyewitness Account Sheds New Light on Tragic Yeji Shooting of Yaa Baby by GH Kobby

Fresh details have emerged regarding the tragic shooting incident in Yeji that led to the death of popular Ghanaian TikToker, Philipha Frimpong, widely known as Yaa Baby, at the hands of her boyfriend, fellow TikToker GH Kobby. The incident, which has sent shockwaves across social media, initially reported by GhanaWeb, involved GH Kobby, Kwadwo Emmanuel, and Michael Kabutey, who were seen having a meal with the victim shortly before the fatal shot was fired.
In a significant new development, an eyewitness who claims to have been present at the scene has provided a chilling and detailed account of what transpired, challenging some of the circulating narratives. The witness, who stated he was hosting GH Kobby and Yaa Baby at his home, recounted the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy.
“What happened is that they came to my place to study because they are students. That’s how we became friends,” the eyewitness began, setting the scene. “Around 2 p.m., I got a call from them saying they wanted to visit. When they arrived, we were chatting, and Kobby asked Ashawo to bring a gun from the car.”
The witness immediately expressed concern upon seeing the firearm, particularly noting GH Kobby’s apparent lack of familiarity with it. He recounted warning Kobby to exercise extreme caution, especially as Kobby seemed to struggle with the mechanism for loading the weapon.
“When Ashawo brought the gun, he and the others left the scene,” the witness continued. “I told Kobby to be careful because he said he wanted to fire a warning shot. He was struggling to load the bullets. I even told the lady [Yaa Baby] to move away from him, but she didn’t listen.” This testimony paints a picture of a situation where the potential danger was recognized and even verbally communicated, yet tragically not averted.
Narrating the pivotal moment of the incident, the eyewitness described how moments later, the gun unexpectedly discharged. “After loading the bullets, he tried to close the chamber, and that’s when he accidentally pulled the trigger. All we heard from Yaa Baby was, ‘Have you seen? You’ve killed me,’ before she collapsed,” he stated, recalling the victim’s final, heart-wrenching words.
Crucially, the eyewitness directly refuted several viral claims that have been circulating since the incident. He strongly denied that GH Kobby placed Yaa Baby’s body in the boot of their CRV vehicle. “After she fell, we placed her inside the car, not the car boot, as people are saying. When they drove off, I immediately called the police,” he clarified, emphasizing that the intention was to get her to medical help, not to conceal anything.
Furthermore, he addressed the nature of the injury and any alleged prior conflict. “The bullet hit her left arm and was heading toward her chest, not her private part. And there was no argument between them,” he clarified, directly contradicting widespread rumors of an argument preceding the shooting and inaccurate reports about the location of the bullet wound.
As of now, investigations into the tragic incident are still ongoing. The new eyewitness account provides crucial details that may help investigators piece together the events more accurately. Many individuals across social media and the general public are continuing to call for a thorough and comprehensive examination of all circumstances leading up to the untimely and tragic death of Yaa Baby.
