Portugal’s star player, Cristiano Ronaldo, broke down in tears after missing a crucial penalty in Portugal’s Round of 16 match against Slovakia in the 2024 Euros on July 1, 2024.

Portugal was awarded a penalty at the end of the first half of extra time while the game was still tied at 0-0.

Ronaldo stepped up for the penalty kick but missed after Atletico Madrid’s goalkeeper, Jan Oblak, correctly guessed the direction and saved the shot.

During the halftime break of extra time, Ronaldo was visibly emotional and seen in tears while receiving encouragement from his teammates in the dugout.

His teammates rallied around him to help him regain his focus, with players like Diogo Dalot playing a key role in helping Ronaldo get back on track.

Despite the missed penalty, Portugal eventually won the match on penalties, defeating Slovakia 3-0, with Ronaldo successfully converting the first penalty kick.

Goalkeeper Diogo Costa emerged as the hero of the night, making three crucial saves to secure the victory for Portugal.
