Kwadwo Asamoah among high-profile players without a club

Kwadwo Asamoah could not secure a move in the just-ended transfer window

Ghana star Kwadwo Asamoah is among top football players who are free agents after the summer transfer window ended on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old features in the list compiled by Transfermarkt. Bayern legend Franck Ribery, Brazilian defender David Luiz and former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge are all on the list because are unattached to any club presently.

Asamoah could not secure a move in the just-ended transfer window after being released by Italian club Cagliari. He signed a short-term contract with the club in February hoping that they would extend it but that did not happen because the midfielder struggled.

He made just nine appearances in the league with only one full-time action. In total, he played 216 minutes and failed to score or assist.

The former Liberty Professionals player who can also operate as a left-back or left wing-back could be thinking about leaving Europe and following in the footsteps of Andre Ayew, Afriyie Acquah and Christian Atsu who have all moved to Asia.

Asamoah arrived in Europe in 2007 and signed for Swiss club AC Bellinzona but after one year he moved to Italy and has stayed there since 2008. He has represented five clubs including Udinese, Juventus and Inter Milan.

But he enjoyed the most success in Turin where he won 13 trophies during his six years stay at Juventus.
