A/R: Suspected robber shot dead; three others arrested at Jacobu

One person has been confirmed dead after a group of suspected armed robbers engaged in a shoot-out with police at Jacobu in the Ashanti Region.

According to the police, the Jacobu patrol team, in their routine duties on the Anwiankwanta-Obuasi stretch at dawn on Tuesday, saw a group of four unmasked men who emerged from the bush and were attempting to attack some persons in vehicles.

The police say one of the four persons, on seeing the police, shot at them and after the police returned fire, he died in the process, while the three persons escaped.

Meanwhile, three persons were later arrested and detained by the police to assist them with investigations in relation to the matter.

Speaking to Citi News, Jacobu District Police Commander, Superintendent Abdulai Iddrisu, said live ammunition were found in the bag of one of the suspects when they were arrested.

“They fired two shots. They had shotguns and knives, and they changed their attire”.

The body of the deceased suspect has been deposited at the St. Peter’s Hospital morgue at Jacobu, while the three other suspects are being questioned by the police.

“As we speak, the three suspects are with the police being interrogated for further action. So I can say one is dead, and the three are being investigated”, Superintendent Abdulai Iddrisu added.
