Kintampo: NDC Executive, others attacked by armed robbers

The Kintampo South Constituency Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Mathew Atanga and some other persons were on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, attacked by a group of armed robbers.

The robbery incident, according to Mr. Atanga, took place around 5:30pm between Asantekwaa and Tangene on the Kintampo-Mo road.

Narrating the incident further to Adams Hamidu Wumpini on the Kintampo Radio’s morning show dubbed “ADEKYEMU NSEM”, Mr. Atanga said he was riding to Tandegene to undertake party assignment when he suddenly bumped into the robbers who had already stopped some passengers on board an Ovan vehicle and motor Riders and were in the process of robbing them

According to him, an amount of GHC140 and his mobile phone were taken from him after he was made to lie “face-down” on the floor. The mobile phone, according to him, was latter given back to him by the robbers.

Passengers on board the other Vehicles were also robbed of their monies, mobile phones and other proceeds they made from the kintampo weekly market.

Apart from a Fulani man who, according to Mr. Atanga was severely beaten for saying ” ALLAH”, no other victim of the evening robbery was physically assaulted at the scene.

Mr. Atanga suspected from the language, dresses and postures of the robbers who were in possession of “heavy, Heavy guns” and other weapons were Fulanis.
“Adams, let me add this; judging from the language the were speaking and how they dressed, I suspect they were Fulani men”

The kintampo Divisional police command has commenced investigations into the matter.

Wednesdays are kintampo market days where people, especially, farmers from the villages in the kintampo North Municipal and others people across the length and breathe of the country go for marketing.
Reports say robbery on that Kintampo-MO road, especially, on Wednesdays has been happening for years, especially, during this season of yam harvest.
