Suspected Gunman Arrested, Weapons Seized in Military Operation in Binduri

A suspected gunman has been arrested and a significant cache of weapons and ammunition seized during a cordon-and-search operation conducted by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of Monday, April 21, 2025, forms part of heightened security efforts aimed at restoring peace in Bawku and surrounding areas, which have been plagued by ongoing clashes and sporadic gunfire.
According to an official statement signed by Brigadier General Eric Aggrey-Quarshie, Director General of Public Relations for the GAF, the military responded swiftly after hearing gunshots near the Binduri Central Market. Troops from the 11 Mechanised Battalion and the Joint Task Force, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, immediately cordoned off the area and launched a thorough search.
During the operation, one suspected gunman was apprehended and handed over to the police for further investigation.
Security forces also recovered a cache of military-grade weapons and gear, including:

Later in the day, unidentified gunmen attempted to infiltrate Binduri. However, military patrols intercepted the threat, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. The assailants ultimately fled the scene, according to the GAF statement.
The military has since confirmed that the situation is under control, and troops remain on high alert to address any future threats.
“The Ghana Armed Forces, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring peace and stability in Bawku and its environs,” the statement emphasized.
“The GAF urges residents to cooperate with security personnel and support efforts to restore calm in the area.”
